Pine Island Preserve at Matlacha Pass

In a complicated land transaction spanning nearly five years and involving state grants, private donations of cash and land, a bargain sale and a grant to a municipality, Dr. Joerger helped to protect  420 acres on Pine Island, FL. The assembly included a portion in fee, a portion as a purchased conservation easement, a portion as donated fee and finally a grant to a third party to facilitate protection of the final piece.  A public advocacy campaign included editorials, TV news stories, YouTube videos, a Facebook campaign, targeted e-blasts, one-on-one meetings with commissioners and a personalized letter to homeowners on Pine Island as well as the surrounding islands. Funds and awareness were raised and the land is protected in perpetuity.
